Here are some of the profile setting I am testing for the standard HF bands, using U.S. Amateur Extra privileges.
Set the units beside the fields to MHz for Center frequency, kS/s for Sample rate, and kHz for Initial frequency, then enter:
| Profile name | Center frequency (MHz) | Sample rate (kS/s) | Initial frequency (kHz) | Initial modulation | Tuning step |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 160m – Phone | 1.900 | 1000 | 1900 | LSB | 100 Hz |
| 80m – Phone | 3.800 | 1000 | 3800 | LSB | 100 Hz |
| 40m – Phone | 7.2125 | 1000 | 7200 | LSB | 100 Hz |
| 20m – Phone | 14.250 | 1000 | 14250 | USB | 100 Hz |
| 17m – Phone | 18.139 | 1000 | 18140 | USB | 100 Hz |
| 15m – Phone | 21.325 | 1000 | 21300 | USB | 100 Hz |
| 12m – Phone | 24.960 | 1000 | 24960 | USB | 100 Hz |
| 10m – Phone | 29.000 | 2400 | 28400 | USB | 100 Hz |
The center frequencies are the midpoints of the phone allocations below. The initial frequencies are convenient starting points; they do not guarantee an active conversation.
These are the corresponding U.S. Extra phone limits: arrl.org
| Band | Phone allocation |
|---|---|
| 160m | 1.800–2.000 MHz |
| 80m / 75m | 3.600–4.000 MHz |
| 40m | 7.125–7.300 MHz |
| 30m | No phone operation permitted |
| 20m | 14.150–14.350 MHz |
| 17m | 18.110–18.168 MHz |
| 15m | 21.200–21.450 MHz |
| 12m | 24.930–24.990 MHz |
| 10m | 28.300–29.700 MHz |
A few setup details:
- Replace the screenshot’s FM selection with LSB or USB as listed. Those are the customary modes for HF SSB voice.
- The sample rate controls the received spectrum width, so the waterfall will extend outside the phone allocation. It does not restrict tuning to your license privileges.
- On 10m, USB is appropriate for the initial 28.400 MHz frequency. Switch to FM when listening to FM activity around 29.6 MHz.
- 30m: retain your FT8 profile; do not create a phone profile. U.S. rules prohibit phone there. Authorized emission types.
- 60m needs separate settings because its channel and segment rules differ from these bands.
Click Apply and save after entering each profile. These settings configure reception; when transmitting, your entire signal must remain inside the permitted allocation.
